KATHMANDU — Nepali army rescue teams were using drilling equipment on Saturday to try to rescue more than 100 people trapped inside a tunnel of the Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project in Rasuwa, three days after devastating floods struck the site.
The prime minister's office said in a statement that government efforts to rescue people trapped in the tunnel were continuing, and that work to clear the tunnel entrance had been intensified since early Saturday morning.
Eighty-two army and police personnel were working to excavate the tunnel entrance, the statement said. Photographs shared by the office showed workers wading through churned mud and navigating large boulders left by the floods.
The statement did not give details on the condition of the trapped people or how long the rescue might take.
