Flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rain in Nepal have killed more than 700 people, with around 2,500 still missing. Families crowded hospitals on Sunday as rescuers dug through mud and debris in northern and central districts.

Severe flash floods in Nepal have left more than 700 people dead and around 2,500 missing, according to officials and news reports. The flooding began on August 26 and moved downstream through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems, causing widespread destruction across northern and central Nepal.
Rescuers continued searching through mud and debris on Sunday, hampered by intermittent rainfall and renewed concerns about rising river levels. Families crowded hospitals in Kathmandu and elsewhere hoping to find missing relatives.
Among the survivors is five-year-old Ishara Tamang, who was being treated at a Kathmandu hospital after being injured in the floods that devastated Rasuwa district, on the Nepal-Tibet border. She was rescued from floodwaters in the village of Khalte after becoming trapped in a net, a local news report said. The girl told hospital staff, "Mother was swept away. I jumped and moved forward, then got trapped in the net."
