Nepal's President Ramchandra Paudel has appealed for international action on climate justice following flash floods that killed 1,356 people and left nearly 5,000 missing in northern and central Nepal.

KATHMANDU — Nepal's President Ramchandra Paudel on Monday called on the international community to take concrete action to ensure climate justice for Nepal and other nations hit hard by climate change. In a televised address after visiting flood-hit areas, he also urged all Nepalese political parties and citizens to unite for relief efforts, saying they should avoid blaming one another or confrontation.
The floods were triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26. They devastated towns and villages in northern and central Nepal and damaged roads, bridges, and hydropower projects. Official data released by authorities says at least 1,356 people were killed across eight districts, with 4,996 people still unaccounted for.
