Sikh separatist says FBI, RCMP warned him of new threat to his life

On Tuesday (August 25, 2026), Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun said the FBI and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had warned him of a new credible threat to his life. Pannun, general counsel for Sikhs For Justice, said FBI agents visited him on Thursday (August 20) and advised him not to travel until the threat is resolved, and to notify the agency in advance if he must travel. He said the RCMP warned him by telephone on Tuesday, though neither law enforcement agency provided details about the threat. The warning comes as a man from India faces sentencing later this year in connection with a 2023 plot to kill Pannun. Neither law enforcement agency immediately responded to requests for comment.
