Social media use by Australian minors rises after ban, data shows
Data from a parental control app shows use of TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat among Australian 10-to-15-year-olds has climbed since an initial drop, despite a legal ban.
Data from parental control app Qustodio, released Wednesday, shows Australian under-16s are increasing their use of social media apps such as Instagram and TikTok despite a ban. Australia implemented legislation barring children from social media platforms in December, with the UK, France and others following suit. Qustodio's data showed that social media use among young people fell across the board when the legal restrictions were first implemented, but has since climbed, even approaching pre-ban levels for some apps. The use of TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat among 10-12 year olds and 13 to 15-year olds was on the rise, the data showed.
