Sri Lanka court sets September 22 verdict in Easter Sunday bombings case
The Colombo High Court has scheduled September 22 for the verdict in the main criminal case over the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka, which killed 279 people. Twenty-four accused are on trial.
The Colombo High Court on Monday said it will deliver its verdict on September 22 in the main criminal case related to the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka. The attacks killed 279 people, including 45 foreigners.
The bombings were a series of coordinated suicide attacks on three churches and three five-star hotels on April 19, 2019. The three-member trial bench announced the verdict date after proceedings that lasted 547 days and heard 2,309 witnesses.
Originally 25 suspects were charged, but one died, leaving 24 indicted in October 2021. The attacks were carried out by the local jihadi group NTJ.
