The Colombo High Court has scheduled September 22 for the verdict in the main criminal case related to the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka, a series of coordinated suicide attacks on churches and hotels that killed 279 people, including 45 foreigners. The attacks occurred on April 19, 2019, and were carried out by the local jihadi group NTJ. A three-member trial bench announced the verdict date on Monday, according to court proceedings. The trial lasted 547 days, with 2,309 witnesses testifying. At least 25 accused were initially charged, but one died, leaving 24 suspects indicted in October 2021.
