Syria president welcomes U.S. removal from state sponsors of terror list
The United States has removed Syria from its state sponsors of terrorism list, lifting a decades-old designation and related sanctions. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa welcomed the move as a step toward reconstruction.

On Tuesday, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa said: "Today, Syria shakes off a dark stain and tears away a painful chapter of its past to embark on a path of development, reconstruction and rebuilding." He expressed thanks to U.S. President Donald Trump and other supportive nations.
The decision follows the 2024 ouster of longtime Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad and marks another step in warming ties between the United States and Syria.
