Trump urges Iran to stop executions of protesters
U.S. President Donald Trump condemned Iran's executions of people linked to earlier protests, calling it a humanitarian crisis and demanding it stop immediately. He also said Iran is not paying large parts of its military.
U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday expressed outrage at the rising number of executions in Iran of people allegedly involved in mass protests earlier this year, before the Middle East war began. In a post on Truth Social, he wrote: "The failing Islamic Republic of Iran is not paying large segments of their military, while at the same time killing protesters, even when they are not protesting, at levels not seen before." He called the situation "a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions" and said it "must be stopped, NOW."
It was not immediately clear what new information prompted the early-morning post. However, there has been a steady increase in executions since the outbreak of the war on February 28. The joint U.S.-Israeli strikes that began the war came weeks after the violent quelling of mass protests in Iran.
