US diesel prices reached a record average above $6 a gallon, rising from $5.85 last week and $3.71 a year earlier, as the war with Iran disrupts global fuel flows. Higher diesel costs are pushing up transportation expenses, and some businesses are adding fees.
Diesel prices in the United States hit a record Friday, rising past $6 a gallon on average, as Washington's war with Iran disrupts the world's flow of fuel, according to a report on the price surge.
The national average was nearly $6.06, up from $5.85 a week earlier and almost $3.71 at the same time last year, the report said, citing motor club AAA.
Regular gasoline also reached nearly $4.30 a gallon on average in the US on Friday.
Diesel is used in many freight and delivery networks, so higher prices mean more expensive transportation for a wide range of everyday goods. Some businesses have already passed steeper costs to consumers through added fees on online orders and packages sent by mail.
Pump prices for diesel and regular gasoline closely follow crude oil prices, and oil renewed its rise recently, the report said.
