US families of missing in Nepal-China floods plead for more rescue help
About 90 Americans are unaccounted for after catastrophic flash floods along the Nepal-China border, according to the U.S. State Department. Relatives of the missing are urging more rescue efforts as the total number of missing people exceeds 2,000.
Family members of some of the more than 2,000 people missing after flash floods along the Nepal-China border are pleading for additional rescue assistance. The U.S. State Department said roughly 90 Americans are among those unaccounted for.
Mukti Patel of Richmond, Virginia, has been gathering with relatives and friends at her parents' home since her father, sister and two other relatives disappeared. She said the hotel they were staying in was swept away but still holds out hope, saying, “We don’t know anything.”
Rescuers have continued pulling survivors from the mud. On a Thursday night Zoom call, some family members asked whether they could reach the disaster site and whether a relative might be trapped inside an air pocket, according to Sanket Pandey, who helped manage the call.
